10th Planet HQ Moves Back To Legends In Hollywood This Monday October 5th

September 30th, 2009

Yo Everyone!

I hope ya’ll are having a great day!

We will be moving back to the Legends starting next Monday, the address is
5176 Santa Monica. It’s about a half mile east of the 101 freeway. There are
about 20 parking spots in back of the building so if it’s packed you’re
gonna have to hunt for spots on the street. There is a JONS market about a
block west which has A LOT of parking but there are JONS PARKING ONLY signs
posted, so I’m not too sure how risky it is. Chris Reilly has parked there a
couple times with no problems. There is no security guard monitoring the
parking lot so I’m assuming it is safe. A tow truck can’t just pull up and
tow cars without someone calling so we’ll have to see how that all plays
out. Maybe grab a gatorade at JONS first??

The new Legends building is HUGE and I am fully stoked to get the show on
the road. All of my jiu jitsu student’s accounts will remain under my
control, so if you have any questions about your membership please email me
directly.

Hope to see you all next Monday! 🙂

10th Planet’s Dan Hardy vs. Mike Swick to determine No. 1 contender @ 170

September 29th, 2009

Mike Swick vs. Dan Hardy to determine No. 1 contender for Georges St. Pierre
by MMAjunkie.com Staff on Sep 28, 2009 at 8:10 am ET
On Sunday UFC welterweight contender Mike Swick (14-2 MMA, 9-1 UFC) took to Twitter and announced neither Matt Hughes nor Georges St. Pierre would likely be his next opponent.

That’s because he’ll next fight Dan Hardy (22-6 MMA, 3-0 UFC) to determine the next opponent for current 170-pound champion Georges St. Pierre.

That’s the word from Mike Chiappetta of AOL FanHouse, who confirmed the plans with UFC president Dana White via text message.

White didn’t confirm a specific date for the proposed matchup, but since Hardy had been announced as part of the UFC 105 main card with opponent Dong Hyun Kim, the Swick vs. Hardy fight will likely replace that bout on that Nov. 14 card.

However, as of Monday morning, the Hardy vs. Kim fight remained listed on UFC.com.

UFC 105 takes place at the MEN Arena in Manchester, England, and airs via same-day delay on Spike TV.

Swick had been scheduled to fight Martin Kampmann earlier this month at UFC 103 in a No. 1 contender’s bout. However, the former top middleweight contender suffered a concussion a few weeks before the fight and was forced to pull out. (UFC newcomer Paul Daley took his spot instead and pulled off the upset victory over Kampmann.)

Swick is 4-0 since dropping to welterweight in early 2008 with decision wins over Josh Burkman and Marcus Davis and TKO victories over Jonathan Goulet and Ben Saunders.

Hardy, a British fighter, first joined the UFC in 2008 and has become one of the organization’s top U.K. stars. He’s currently riding a six-fight win streak, which includes a 3-0 mark in the UFC with a split-decision win over Akihiro Gono, a KO win over Rory Markham, and a split-decision victory over Davis.

Jeff Glover’s Deep Half Guard DVD Review

September 24th, 2009

Photo 13Glover came in to our school the beginning of last year and showed us a few deep half things. It was an immediate addition to my lockdown/half guard game. Me and a couple other guys started going bananas with it. This dvd was exactly what I was looking for. It goes over how to get to deep half from all kinds of positions. Once in deep half he shows a ton of different sweep options and variations. I was able to tune up my deep half and picked up a bunch of new tricks. There’s some great details!

The overall production value of this 2 disc set is good, It’s shot and edited well. The cover looks like Napoleon Dynamite. Glover keeps its interesting with some gag techniques and light humor. There’s a whole section on using the stability ball that I can’t tell if he’s joking or serious about using it. Could be a stab at Gymnasica Natural. The fact that I can’t tell is pretty funny.

Run, don’t walk to your local martial arts supply store and cop this DVD. My advice is to buy 2 copies so you can give one to your sister, rock doubles, or have a great wedding gift for your cat. Jeff Glover’s “Deep Half” can replace that empty hole the “Fade To Black” DVD left in your 5 disc changer, and in your heart.

Budo didn’t pay me for this endorsement, but if they’d like to, they know where to reach me.

Brandon Quick Up To His Old Tricks

August 31st, 2009

Hundreds of these flyers were put up at a texas tourney last weekend promoting Brandon’s seminar. A friend of Eddie’s in Texas sent over the pic. For those who don’t know, Brandon Was relieved of his 10th Planet association when it came to light he was in fact a fraudulent brown belt and a liar.

Detailed Rules: The object of the competition is to control and submit your opponent.

Ways to win: 1) Causing your opponent to physically or verbally Tapout or quit by using a technique within the guidelines of the rules in each set division. (All competitors must be aware of dangerous techniques and know how to Tapout.)
2) Highest score at end of regulation time period or overtime.
3) Referee Stoppage

1. Hygiene: At weigh-ins all competitors will be checked for communicable diseases, not limited to but including ring-worm, staph, herpes and impetigo

2. Tie Breakers: There will be a one minute overtime in the event of a draw. At the end of the 1 minute overtime if the were no points scored it will immediately turn to sudden death in which the first point scored gets the victory. The stalling rule will be enforced with ZERO tolerance in overtime. The referee will give 2 warnings and you will be deducted -1 point and given the loss if you do not go after the victory.

3. No Stalling : The referee will issue warning for the 1st offense of stalling (i.e. backing out of the guard without engaging, butt scooting, fleeing the ring to avoid takedown/submission attempts). The 2nd offense will result in a 2 point deduction. A 3rd offense will result in a 3 point deduction. A 4th offense will result in a DQ.

4. Leg Locks: Leg Locks are ILLEGAL in all kids, masters, executive, and novice divisions. Straight ankle locks are legal for Beginner. Straight ankle, inside figure four toe holds, straight knee bars and calf slicers are legal for Intermediate. , All leg locks are legal in the Advanced Men’s division. Note: Reaping (crossing you leg across your opponents body while attacking a foot) is illegal in all divisions except Intermediate and advanced adult.

5. Illegal Techniques in all divisions: No strikes, biting, eye gouging (includes chin to eye), head butting, small join manipulation (finger and toe locks), hair pulling, or ear pulling, neck cranks.

6. Slamming: ZERO tolerance on slamming. This is to avoid slamming to escape the guard and various submissions from the guard. A competitor will be immediately disqualified NOTE – Takedowns are not considered slamming, unless intent to injure is determined by the referee.

7. Neck Cranks and Twister: Neck cranks and Twister (wrestling guillotine) are only legal in the advanced division. Intermediate division may use the Twister setup to execute the banana split or calf slicer.

8. Takedowns and control: Any position must be held for a MINUMUM of 3 full seconds before points will be awarded. If you take your opponent down and Mount him you would receive 3 points for the take down AFTER 3 seconds AND then 3 more seconds for the 4 point mount. Therefore you must maintain the position for 3 seconds per set of points. Guard pass points are established when the opponent’s shoulders are flat on the ground and your legs are completely clear of their legs. If you go from standing to a guys back with BOTH his knees on the ground for 3 full seconds you receive 2 points for reversal.

9. Sweeps/Reversals: Reversal of position points are given when one opponent reverses from the bottom to the top position and maintained for a full three seconds. The reversal has to be used from your guard or in the immediate transition of someone passing your guard. For example if your passing my guard and I IMMEDIATELY put you on your back I receive reversal points. Note: Rolling someone over when you are mounted or in side control is an escape not a reversal.

10. No-Gi Attire:, boardshorts, fight shorts, singlets, or Gi pants are required. Rashguards, t-shirts, tank tops, Wrestling shoes, knee pads (non-medal braces), headgear, cups and mouth pieces are optional.

*Code of Conduct: We will be enforcing a zero tolerance rule on disrespecting, threatening with physical violence, or verbally abusing referees or staff at any time before, during or after the event. If any spectator, coach or competitor threatens or abuses the referee in any shape or form, they will be escorted out of the building. www.MySpace.com/WorldGrapplingGames
