10th Planet ADCC West Coast Trials 2009

May 26th, 2009 In News | 21 Comments

Big shouts out to everybody that competed or came out to support this past weekend at the ADCC 2009 west coast trials. There were tons of us out representing that day. Riverside, Burbank, Hollywood HQ, all our friends and families came out to root us on as we competed. I was proud to be a part of such an amazing group of people. There was a real sense of comradery between us. Everybody it put it on the line and gave everything they had during the competition. After months of training, injuries, dieting, weight cutting etc it all came down to this day. In the end, win or lose, it’s my belief that we did a fantastic job coming together as a team. My hat is off to everyone, big props all around!

For me, this was an especially important event. This was my first ever, real competition. Thank you to my coaches, Eddie Bravo, Brent Littell, Shigeki Matsuda, Edwin Co, Scott Epstein, Jason Juatco (sorry if I forgot anybody). Thank You to all my training partners in Hollywood and Burbank that helped me get ready for the event. Win or lose, it was all about stepping outside of my comfort zone to challenge myself and test my skills. I learned so much this time around and look forward to competing again in the very near future.

10th Planet, all day!!!

Scott Epstein Week Begins: Gag Reflex

December 23rd, 2008 In Techniques | 15 Comments

Scott “Einstein” Epstein paid me a lot of money to do this, so I’m having a whole week or more of him on 10th Planet Watch. Scott and I have been working hard on this, we hope you like all the techniques, live rolling, blogs and interviews. As much shit as I talk about him, I enjoyed the process, but mostly because I like his dogs.

Love him or hate him, you’re stuck with him and his miserable self. Nothing is more synonymous with holiday joy, than Einstein, ENJOY!

Scott “Einstein” Epstein Is At Ray Longo’s This Saturday

November 26th, 2008 In Seminars | 9 Comments

So I get this message from Scott “Einstein” Epstein last night at 2 in the morning.

“im gonna teach at ray longos sat at 5 pm it will be 3 hours ..pump this up where ever you pump..” – Scott

Now, I could be a dick and not do shit for him cuz he’s a grease ball, or I could be a dick and just copy and paste what he wrote on my blog and make him look like a dick.

…Either way, I’m a dick.

And thank you very much for the interest in my jiu jitsu.

We have moved to Legends MMA at 1626 N. La Brea Ave. Hollywood, CA.

Jiu Jitsu classes are $130 a month for unlimited jiu jitsu and $275 with
kickboxing included, or $30 for individual classes. Private instruction is
$500 an hour or $100 with a 10thpjj brown belt.

There is no required uniform, you can wear whatever you like, just make sure
it¹s clean. Classes run Monday thru Thursday night from 8:30pm to 10pm, and
Tuesday and Thursday from 11:30am to 1pm. There is also a wrestling class
that¹s included in the price on Saturday at 2pm.

For all beginners (less than 1 year of bjj) I require 3 private lessons, $55
each, with one of my assistant instructors before joining the group class,
$165 total.

And I highly recommend buying my book “Jiu Jitsu Unleashed” available at
amazon.com for around $12. The book will help you get up to speed with the
10th Planet terminology and strategy, which is crucial for keeping up with
the group classes.

The one on one lessons will get your body used to the movements on the
ground and give you the feel you need for understanding what the submissions
are all about.

If you¹re over 160 pounds call my brown belt Brent Littel (310) 486-2534, or
if you¹re under 160 call Scott Epstein (323) 691-7744 to schedule your
private instruction and they will make sure when you join the group class
you will be able to flow with the rest of the class with little trouble.

If you have over a year of bjj experience and are ready to join the 10th
Planet team or if you want to host a 10th Planet seminar contact Eddie Bravo
directly twisterbravo@sbcglobal.net.

Add me as a friend at www.myspace.com/thetwister for the latest seminar,
dvd, book, and music info

Thank you and I hope to see you soon,
Eddie :)

10th Planet Is Starting Kindergarden. Happy 5th birthday

September 19th, 2008 In News | 4 Comments

Happy happy hooray!!! Eddie opened 10th Planet 5 years ago this year. The original location was at The Bomb Squad, on Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood California. A fitting location for us considering that area is one of the most popular hang outs for transexual hookers in the world. Ah the good ol’ days. But all good (or creepy) things come to an end. We’re now located at Legends, a premier, state of the art facility located right in the heart of Hollywood. This gym puts anything the Russians could have come up with in Rocky 4, to shame.

Anyways, I think an official 10thpjj 5 year party is in order. Is anybody else down?

Here's a pic from our 4th bday party. All the 10th planet regulars came out to celebrate!

Coach Alder Presents: The Ham Sandwich

July 29th, 2008 In Techniques | 13 Comments

I had the pleasure of teaching class tonight at the 10th Planet Headquarters at the Legends Gym in Hollywood. I showed the class one of my money sweeps, The Ham Sandwich. It’s a combo sweep/submission when your opponent posts one or both of their legs up. You can hit it from several different positions. It works well from the stomp, the cocoon, open guard, butterfly guard with one under hook, 93 guard. I’ve even seen Conor Heun do a flying Ham Sandwich.

This Technique came from Legendary Jiu Jitsu master, Ricardo Liborio of American Top Team. He taught it to Eddie Bravo and Jason Chambers in Japan when Jason was fighting out there.

***This technique was not taught to Jason Chambers and Eddie Bravo by Ricardo LIborio of American Top Team. It is actually a Jason Chambers Variation. I stand corrected.

Sorry Jason ; )
