Advanced Rubber Guard: Puppet Master 6
“In part 6 we cover options from when we get the Rubix Cube from Mission Control(Mission Rubix). Take note of the fact that you don’t have as much control from this position as you do from the Rubix Cube with the arm trapped to the mat so these moves or going to have to be done rather quickly. Filmed at 8th Street Gym, Grand Junction, Colorado. Jeff “The Wolverine” Barney, Felipe Soto”
I’m not sure how this would work in live sparring, but I’ll give it a chance. I’m gonna drill it a bit and then test it out on some of the white belts
Actually the best option is the first one, going for the Zombie, and then continuing with the standard Puppet Master moves. Like I say at the beginning of the video you don’t have nearly as much control from Mission Rubix as you do from the standard Rubix Cube, so you have to make your move quickly. Ari’s Undefended video made me start thinking of some new options that I want to try, and if they work I should have some new stuff up in a couple of weeks.
Wolverine
Well, I don´t know if that is legit advanced RG or not, but it works for me and my long legs a lot.
I like your stuff Wolverine.
Thanks man =)
is any of this puppet master stuff tested? if so how many months/years? or is it just a new move that gets tossed up when you see it? can you hit people at your own level with it?
Brandon,
Honestly I haven’t used every move in the series while rolling. The set ups I have used affectively in the gym are the Pyramid set up from part 1, Solution from part 2, The Drowning Puppet(part 2), using the opposite foot to feed the arm back to the hooking foot (part 3), the Riddler set up from the back(Part 4), and the Riddler from Mount(Part 5). The Submissions from the series that I have used while rolling are The Face Vice, The far side shoulder lock, and the Puppet Master Submission(all from part 1), the Near Side Kimura(Part 2), Apple Crusher and Wolverine-otine (part 3), the Unforgiven from (part 4), and The Cleveland (Part 5). Yes a lot of the other moves I have drilled, but haven’t had a chance to use yet because all of this is relatively new stuff I still put these moves in the videos so others can try them and tell me if they are working for them. Thanks to Youtube and open minded rubber guard fans we can have test labs all over the world to see what works and what doesn’t. In my experience, if you can get the Rubix Cube, then you can get the Puppet Master. From there it seems like your opponent is so helpless that you can pick any submission you want to finish him with.
Wolverine
Off the subject Brandon, but the other night I was rolling and I started to go for the twister off of my opponent in a turtled up position. I put the grapevine on him and instead of going to the leg and pulling to me or doing the Twister Roll I reached back to his far arm and used the 100 % and to pull him to me, and then to baseball bat control and so on. It seemed like a variation of your Hardcore Twister, have you done this before, is this an effective way to get the Twister in your opinion?
