Critique my Rubber Guard, please. I wasn’t progressing anywhere with the RG in this match. Part of that is because he had good pressure with his head driving towards my left shoulder.
In before, “Drop your right elbow down to his collarbone,” – I know I wasn’t doing that well and using that might’ve opened up crackhead to me. But, is there a method that I need to force the elbow down into the collarbone?
to clear the neck dig ur elbow into his head. it’s mean but you’ll move his head for sure. That’s how Shigeki (brown belt from 10th planet hq) does it. he can clear anybody’s neck. Or you could have gone to rescue dog (chill dog on the other side) and go to the other side. Which means you have to practice your rubberguard on both sides. He had both hands on the mat and since he was pushing his head to your left shoulder, the otherside was totally clear. That’s my suggestion. Hope the higher belt guys can help and add to this.
Hey, Howard. Yeah, I made it in once (I’ve been intending to make it in a lot more than once, but it’s a long drive from Manhattan Beach). We rolled for a bit.
HA cool yeah I remember you. Good job once again! With getting into Chill Dog if you Elbow Spike right down near his head – he will move it. haha see you on the mat!
“Respected” was definitely the best joke on the front page this week. I probably should’ve come out to 10th Planet Burbank last night, Alder, but then I got high.
This is a typical problem I had a lot training in Rio. If u are stacked hard by a opponent with gi you may have a hard time to clear the head since you have a lot more friction with the gi but since you got the hand to the mat u might go omoplata old school by switching grip like a regular BJJ omoplata and just get the sweep. You take our hand that hugs the knee and pull the foot over his face (in this case the left hand) and use the other hand to hold his sleve in the omopata position, this is not for no gi cuse you will most likley lose the control of your opponent, but is a variation that comes in handy when you roll with the gi to take some friction away.
Erik, nice to see RG being utilized in the Gi. Eddie’s book “Mastering The Rubber Guard” is really a great tool. Same with the DVD set. I train with Eddie four times a week and I am still constantly looking at both.
The two most basic go to moves when you can’t clear the head are The East Coast Croc, and Rescue Dog which forces you to go RG on the other side.
