Before gaining fame as the co-host of the popular History Channel show “Human Weapon” Jason Chambers was an up and coming MMA fighter who started out in Chicago. Chambers made a successful return to action in the Chicagoland area by facing Dan New in the co-main event of Total Fight Challenge 13.
Here’s Mir getting his Rubber Guard on. It is my opinion that first, Big Nog Taps to a Double Bagger set up. After that Mir gogoplatas Couture to cement his legacy  😉
Jared is a stud, I’m looking forward to watching his fight. He’s got great Jiu Jitsu and insane flexibility. It should be a great fight.
I might be reaching here, but here it goes. Overeem uses the lockdown to take away Takahashi’s base. By doing so, Valentijn can minimize the damage he sustains. He then waits for the right moment to scramble to his feet.
I’ll dub this technique: “Lockdown To Flying Knee Combination”
“This is a set up that works really well against an opponent that likes to strike from your guard. Instead of transitioning from New York to Chill Dog, sometimes I like to go directly for a triangle choke.”
-Balletman
I always like to see the techniques being used in MMA, I want to find more stuff like this. Apparently, there are small shows every weekend where guys are pullin off amazing Rubber Guard set ups in MMA. If anybody has links to these fights, send them over, I’ll put them up.
Rubber guard sighting at 18:00 into the fight Pros? Cons? Too little, too late? What do you guys think about the Renzo Gracie affiliates doing rubber guard? They seem to be doing it with consistency, Ricardo Almeida, Dante Riviera, Luke Cummo and now Andre Gusmao. Let’s discuss people.
Luke Cummo goes to rubber guard several times in this fight. Not too successfully however. Word on the street is, Tamdan McCrory is a rubber guard player. He talks about it in the post fight interview after UFC 87. It’s popping up all over!
The embedded video got taken down, but here’s the Link to the Video
As some of you know I’m on vacation and training at up in the greater Portland, OR area at Impact BJJ. I took the nogi/submission class they offered on Fridays. The teachers name is Keisuke Andrew. I was impressed with his skills on the mat. I wasn’t familiar with him, so I did a little research when I got home. So far he’s undefeated in MMA, and is a badass on the submission grappling circuit. I found his MMA highlight reel, I’ll let the video speaks speak for its self itself.
Part 1
Part 2
While Watching this video I took some notes.
In Video 1 in Round 2:
@ 7:11 of the video, Carlos goes for an awesome 360 type spin pass that lands him in the mount.
@ 7:24 Carlos does a great job of using the Karo Pass to end up in Miura’s half guard.
@ 8:00 Miura has a “Lockdown” with double underhooks. At one point he also get’s on gets an arm hooked under the far leg, I thought he might be looking to sweep. Instead of trying to sweep from this position, he just used it to rest. He doesn’t make much of an effort to whip up to his side.
@ 9:17 Carlos is in a perfect position to use “Swim Move” to get to the “Spider Web” or armbar position. He goes for the arm, but can’t control Miura’s body and eventually loses the hold.
Great back and forth action, It was very entertaining!
Here’s Brandon’s variation on the Peruvian Necktie. I like how he secures the ankle and can hold on even when the opponent tries to roll out.
Here’s and example of the peruvian necktie in action from the recent UFN CB Dollaway vs Jesse Taylor
Shinya hits the Karo pass at 2:14 of the Video. Later he uses the rubber guard, clears the hand to the mat, but then clears the neck in a funky way which leads to Hansen popping out. I won’t spoil the end of the fight.
You’ve seen him on the Tap Out Show, trolling the MMA message boards, and winning countless grappling tournaments. Now you too can have Scott “Einstein” Epstein come to your martial arts academy and teach you a trick or two. Don’t let the horrible sarcastic New York attitude fool you, deep down he’s just a cuddley teddy bear.
